  10 July 2018

The day’s programme commenced with a presentation/seminar on Publishing in WIETE journals - how to write and how to quote prepared and conducted by Mrs Dorota Pudlowski and Professor Zenon J. Pudlowski, and was carried out for the academic staff of the Faculty of Architecture at Cracow University of Technology (FA-CUT), in Kraków, Poland. Close to 30 participants took part in this activity. The presentation concerned broad academic writing skills, but zoomed in on preparing a structured outline for a prospective article for publication in WIETE journals. Numerous examples from already published articles illustrated the raised issues and highlighted potential traps and problems that authors may face. Citation impact discussed in the context of the whole publication cycle comprised part two of the presentation. Additional to the author’s impact factors, the journal’s impact factors were outlined briefly, as these two are intertwined and interrelated.

The second part of the day’s programme involved a meeting of the key members of the partnership group, at which the WIETE Directors had the opportunity to discuss current issues of importance for the WIETE and the FA-CUT, relating to the partnership established in September 2017. The FA-CUT’s team included Professor Jacek Gyurkovich, Dean of the Faculty; Professor Grażyna Schneider-Skalska, Vice-Dean of the Faculty; Professor Wacław Seruga, former Dean of the Faculty and Editor-in-Chief of the Faculty’s scientific journal Środowisko Mieszkaniowe (Housing Environment); and Professor Sabina Kuc, representative of the Faculty, and Vice-President of the WIETE International Academic Advisory Committee (WIETE-IAAC).

One item on the agenda was a discussion on the joint organisation of the 2019 Conference on Engineering and Architecture Design and Education (2019-EADE), scheduled for June 2019. It was decided that the Conference would take place in the FA-CUT between 3 and 7 June 2019. Another topic of importance was the participation of FA-CUT’s academic staff in WIETE activities, such as the 6th Mediterranean Seminar on Engineering and Technology Education to be held in Athens, Greece, this September and the 10th Jubilee WIETE Annual Conference on Engineering and Technology Education, to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, in February 2019. An exchange of experience gained by the two institutions in publishing research articles in WIETE journals and Housing Environment, was also high on the agenda.
