  16 May 2015

A function was held at the WIETE Office on Saturday, 16 May 2015, to farewell Dr Elena Alexandrovna Danilova on her departure from Melbourne to take up the position of Manager, Scholarly Publishing in the library at the University of Queensland (UQ) in Brisbane.

Educated in Tomsk, Western Siberia, Russia, Elena came to the then UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (UICEE) at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, in June 2006, to undertake doctoral studies by research, and enrolled through the Monash Asia Institute (MAI). She received her PhD on 15 April 2010, and her doctoral dissertation was entitled Important issues in the development of a curriculum for English and communication studies in engineering and technology courses to improve communication skills of students in developing countries.

Apart from her studies, Elena worked at the UICEE as a project officer until the closure of the Centre in January 2009. The World Institute for Engineering and Technology Education (WIETE) was established in March 2009, and she was supportive in the early stages of WIETE’s foundation by contributing to publishing two international journals, and held the position of associate editor until the end of 2011. Concurrently, she was working in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Performance) at Monash University, processing research publications, which she continued to do until recently.

Dr Danilova will take up her new post on 25 May 2015. The position is a new role within the scholarly communication and digitisation services at the UQ Library. She will contribute to the scholarly publishing service, and will be able to lead new initiatives within this broad area, and create new opportunities for the UQ Library.

Staff, members and associates of the WIETE wholeheartedly congratulate Dr Danilova on obtaining this position, and wish her well for the future.
